Derek Smyth, Chairman of the Board
Smyth joined EdgeStone Capital Partners as a partner in February 2004. Smyth recently held the position of COO at Ironside Technologies, where he was responsible for the overall direction of global business development, marketing, sales operations and product development. As COO, Smyth grew the business from start-up phase to a $50M multi-national organization, and a team of 14 to 240, while raising $72M in private equity. Previously, he held a number of positions with Bay Networks Canada and Radius Inc. He has his B.A. (Commerce and Economics) from the University of Toronto and completed the Enterprise Program for Growing Companies (EPGC) at Stanford University.
Dale deFreitas, Chief Executive Officer
deFreitas brings 18 years experience in computer industry finance to his role. He joins pVelocity from SEEC, an insurance software developer. Prior to that, Mr. deFreitas held the roles of Vice President Finance and Chief Administrative Officer at Ironside Technologies Inc., a leading provider of electronic commerce software, as well as Controller of Bay Networks Canada.
Laura Lenz, Director
Laura joined EdgeStone in January 2004. Prior to joining EdgeStone, Laura was an Associate in Investment Banking at BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc. where she worked on corporate finance and advisory transactions with communications and technology companies. During this time, Laura also worked in BMO Nesbitt Burns' private equity divisions, including BMO Halyard Partners and BMO Equity Partners. Laura holds an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario (Dean's Honor List).
Mark Miller, Director
Mr. Miller has been with Constellation Software Inc. for over 12 years. Mr. Miller currently spends the majority of his time as the Chief Executive Officer of Trapeze Operating Group and Friedman Corporation, but also acts as CSI's Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Miller received a B.Sc. in Statistics and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. In addition, Mr. Miller has attended the Executive Marketing Program at the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario. Mr. Miller is also on the Board of Directors of Emerging Information Systems Inc, a private software company headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
David Thomas, Director
David has over 25 years experience in the software technology industry including sales & marketing, business development, implementation and support. As a software entrepreneur he has currently founded Consumer MT Inc., developing software applications for mobile devices. As the CEO/Founder of Triversity Inc. for 15 years, David was responsible for leading the company's successful growth strategies, both organically and through acquisitions and raised more than $40m of venture capital. He grew the company successfully to be one of the leading Point of Sale (POS) companies in North America from the ground up to over 400 employees at its peak, with over 250 retail customers in over 30 countries using Triversity's POS and Analytic solutions. After SAP acquired Triversity in 2005, David became SVP Trading Industries and Global Head of POS. He was responsible for developing sales and delivery strategies for SAP's POS customers and prospects. He created a program called the Global POS Hub, which became a center of excellence for POS. Additionally, he was responsible to build a POS partner ecosystem to enable SAP to provide scalability in terms of delivery of services and license revenue. David holds a degree from the University of Waterloo in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Kevin Young, Director
Throughout his career, Kevin Young has led a number of businesses that achieved superior profitable growth. Recently, Kevin was President of Unisync Group Limited, a turnkey designer, manufacturer and distributor of employee uniforms sold to Canada's largest retailers, quick service restaurants, industrial companies and grocery chains. Previously, Kevin held a number of progressively senior roles with Indalex, a manufacturer of customized extruded aluminum components sold to OEMs across North America. He was President of Indalex' Western Region, a $250 million division of the company and was instrumental in building the business from $375 million in revenues to $1.5 billion. Kevin holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of business at the University of Western Ontario.
